Dame Judi Dench, who plays ‘M’, has said she is still expecting to resume her role as 007’s irascible boss in Bond 23. Interviewed live by theatre director Stephen Unwin at an event called ‘Time To Talk’ on 17 th March, Dame Judi discussed her illustrious career both in film and on the stage, especially her recent role in a new version of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at the Rose Theatre in Kingston, south west London. The play, which ran from 9 th February to 20 th March, and was directed by Sir Peter Hall, saw packed audiences for every performance, undoubtedly attracted by the chance to see Dame Judi in action as Titania, a role she first took on for Sir Peter at Stratford in 1962 and, again, in Hall’s 1969 movie version. This time round, however, Hall converted the play into a portrait of Titania as an ageing Queen Elizabeth I, who is besieged by courtiers but remains ‘married to the people of England’. The new production received rave reviews in the British press.
