For Your Ears Only The Voice of the Stars by Nikki Van Der Zyl
Many thanks for the book to The James Bond Museum Nybro Sweden

For      Your Ears Only is the intriguing and insightful new memoir by      Nikki van der Zyl – the unseen revoicing artiste that dubbed all the      female lead characters in some of the most famous and well-loved James      Bond films including From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball,       You Only Live Twice, and Dr No.

Nikki’s incredible career saw her become an integral yet invisible      element of the James Bond franchise and has afforded her cult status among      007 enthusiasts, while also securing her a loyal fan base around the      world. But this tell-all account of her life sheds light on some of the      hardships she encountered as a child refugee and the harrowing account of      how she is still denied access to her grandchildren. In addition, Nikki      worked as a barrister, journalist and lobby correspondent for the House of      Commons.

For Your Ears Only is the perfect read for Bond fans, and film      fanatics everywhere, but also those interested in journalism, law and      politics.

Bond, James  Bond was born in a small beautiful seaside town of Västervik in Sweden in 1957 to Inga Charlotta and Johannes Schäfer. His father was a German soldier that moved to Sweden shortly after the end of World War 2, Gunnar is youngest of three, Bertil (1951) and Heinz (1955).

When Bond, Gunnar Bond (BGB) was two years old and just moved with his family to Nybro, his father suddenly disappeared without a trace. The only explanation offered to the childrens was that he went back to Germany to look for his mother, never to return. In the following years the family of four falls into hardship, he remembers getting a visit from the Lions club donating food over holiday festivals while they plummet down the social classes to the lowest.

The website for a James Bond museum in Sweden

Website design shouldn’t elicit this reaction.

The website for a James Bond museum in Sweden

There is probably not one of us reading this who has not lost themselves in time and space as they surf the web. So much engaging content, so many interesting lines of enquiry – and so much rubbish too.

As the (revised) saying goes:

Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that person to use the internet and they won’t bother you for weeks.

Even though the World Wide Web has come a long way since it was first developed more than 20 years ago, we often come across the “try-too-hard website” where designers mistakenly think that people visit the site for the “experience”. They do not. They come for information. Anything that slows them down in getting that information is just annoying.

Annoying your visitors can hardly be good for business, yet websites that do this are not uncommon – as shown in the latest annual list of 25 worst websites.

Even worse is the website for a James Bond museum in Sweden, picked up by another web critic.

Despite a growing number of people accessing the web through their smartphones, there are still many websites that have so much busy content, Flash animations and slow-loading graphics that even a desktop computer would have trouble showing them.
