Duncan Jones is to direct a feature film about Ian Fleming’s life, it has been announced at the Cannes Film Festival.

Duncan Jones is to direct a feature film about Ian Fleming’s life, it has been announced at the Cannes Film Festival.
The BAFTA-winning Brit, who previoulsy helmed Moon and Source Code, will direct the biopic about the mysterious James Bond creator.
The movie will explore how Fleming’s real-life experiences of travelling the world and planning top-secret operations inspired his novels.
”Fleming lived through one of the most perilous periods in world history, in a position that allowed him a unique vantage point of all the players, all the stakes,” Jones said.
”He witnessed true heroism first-hand.  And he saw the evil men could do.  Then, when the war ended, he went off to write fiction. The essential question for me is: Where did Ian Fleming end and Bond begin?”
Jim Young and Robert Laycock of the Ian Fleming Estate will work in association with K5 Film (owned by Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur), PalmStar Media Capital’s Kevin Frakes and Liberty Films’ Stuart Fenegan to produce the project.  K5 International will handle worldwide rights.
Casting for the film, based on Andrew Lycett’s biography Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond, is currently taking place. The project, the first to be given full support from Ian Fleming’s estate, is expected to go into production later this year.
Frakes said: ”Fleming is a larger than life character and it’s fantastic to be bringing him to the big screen with Duncan.”

James Bond movies to screen at Cannes Film Festival

15 Maj

Cannes Film Festival bosses will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise by screening five classic 007 movies at the event.

The suave superspy first burst onto the big screen in 1962’s Dr. No and went on to become one of the icons of modern cinema.

To celebrate the franchise’s 50th birthday this year (12), officials at this month’s (May12) French film festival will screen 007’s debut cinema outing along with its follow-up From Russia with Love, George Lazenby’s sole turn as the spy in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Sean Connery’s swansong in 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever, and current Bond star Daniel Craig’s debut in Casino Royale.

The films, which have all been digitally enhanced, will be shown free to the public at an outdoor theatre on Cannes Beach. The screenings mark the start of a year-long series of global events celebrating the franchise’s anniversary.

”The screenings in Cannes mark a year-long celebration, including a return to theatres worldwide of some of the classic Bond films,” the Daily Express quoted MGM and Sony executives as saying in a joint statement.
