Gunnar Schäfer Sweden Nybro is the new James Bond.

19 Aug

Schäfer, Gunnar Schäfer has just been given the all clear from the tax board to make some alterations to his name.
He may now officially refer himself as Nils Gunnar Bond James Schäfer. Or Bond, James Bond for short.
If ever Sweden was to have its own 007, Gunnar Schäfer has long seemed the most likely candidate.
In 1959 Schäfer’s father, who had been a German secret service agent during the Second World War, disappeared in mysterious circumstances.
”It was the time of the Cold War. He went away on holiday and we never heard from him again. Perhaps somebody wanted him dead. I just don’t know,” Schäfer told The Local.
The loss of his father at a very young age is intimately linked to his life-long interest in 007.
In 1965, the eight-year-old Schäfer settled down to watch ‘Goldfinger’ with his older brother. The experience was to alter his young life.
”I began to compare Ian Fleming’s life to that of my father. I read the novels and found all the similarities.
”Like my father, Fleming had also been a secret agent. He became a sort of mentor to me.
”‘Goldfinger’ helped me to get on with my life and it brought me closer to my father,” he said.
Gunnar Schäfer’s fascination with all things Bond is evident in every aspect of his life.
For example, his mobile phone number ends with the digits 007.
One of his cars, the original BMW used in ‘Goldeneye’, is registered 007 JB.
And just like Ian Fleming’s Jamaican estate, Schäfer’s house in Kalmar is called ‘Goldeneye’.
He also dresses like Bond. At least once a week he puts on his dinner jacket and sits down to watch a 007 classic.
”Sometimes I’ll drink a dry martini. But usually I pour myself a glass of Bollinger champagne, which was Albert Broccoli’s favourite drink and also something Bond is quite fond of,” said Schäfer.
When he’s not being Bond, Gunnar Schäfer runs a car parts business in Nybro. It was here that he first began displaying some of the memorabilia for the world’s first 007 museum.
”It was in 2002, when ‘Die Another Day’ was about to come out. I set aside a small space in my shop”.
The embryonic museum was later moved to a much larger premises. Spread over 350 square metres of exhibition space, the museum now houses a cinema, games consoles and a casino, as well as an impressive array of 007 artifacts ranging from cars to specially designed glasses.
But what about 007’s famed collection of short-term girlfriends? Does Schäfer share his hero’s handy knack of proving irresistible to the opposite sex?
”Yes and no,” he laughed.
”They are often very curious, even the ones who don’t like 007.
”After they meet me and I tell them the story about my father they usually end up liking Bond,” he said.
Gunnar Schäfer celebrated his 50th birthday at the end of March. Visit his website to find out more about the Swedish James Bond and his 007 museum.

Fantasterna James Bond-fantast! Bytte namn. Till Gunnar Bond James Schäfer

2 Apr

Träffa James Bond i Nybro.

Swede changes name to James Bond

James Bond is alive and well and living in the south east of Sweden. Or at least his namesake is.

Shaken, not stirred: celebrate the release of James Bond’s Skyfall with a vodka Martini.

James Bond is back next month in new film Skyfall, and if you want to emulate the spy, the best (and least dangerous!) way is by throwing on a sharp suit, and making his famous cocktail, the Martini.

Russian Standard Vodka and Harrods have teamed up to celebrate the release of the movie with the new premium vodka, Russian Standard Platinum. It’s ideal for making a 007-style Martini, as it’s super distilled, giving it a crisp flavour.

If you want to make your own Martini, you can buy a bottle of the Russian Standard Vodka Platinum from Harrods for (RRP £20.00). However, if you want to feel suave and order it in a bar, a variety of London venues are also serving the Platinum Martini, such as Skylon, Coq D’Argent, Boisdale, Hush and B-Soho.

In the last Bond film, Quantum Of Solace, James reveals his secret for the perfect Dry Martini, saying: “Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large slice of lemon-peel. Got it?”

This comes after the news this month that left many fans disappointed – that in new Bond flick Skyfall, the spy will swap his beloved vodka martini for a Heineken beer, as part of an advertising campaign

Kina Lillet. ”Vesper” Dry Martini in Ian Flemings James Bond Film Casino Royale

30 Sep
”Vesper” Dry Martini in Ian Flemings in James Bond Films  Casino Royale

The ‘Vesper’ Martini (Fleming’s choice) Den ”Vesper” Martini (Fleming val)

  • 3 parts Gin 3 delar Gin
  • 1 part Vodka 1 del Vodka
  • 0,5 part kina lillet
  • 1 Lemon wedge 1 Lemon k

Using a standard cocktail shaker and plenty of ice, vigorously shake until the drink is ice cold. Serve in a champagne goblet with a thin slice of lemon peel.

Scrambled egg with bacon in butter salt and peppar a la` Ian Fleming. Break eggs into a bowl. Beat with fork and season with salt and pepper. In a small, heavy-bottomed pan, melt 4 oz. of the butter. Pour eggs and cook over very low heat, whisking with a small whisk.

When eggs are slightly moist and not quite how you’d want to eat them, remove pan from heat. Add remaining butter and continue whisking for 30 seconds, adding the herbs. Serve on hot buttered toast in individual copper dishes, with pink champagne.

Make sure you serve it in the copper dishes and with the champagne and tell us if they make a difference.

Bond as a cultural phenomenon has moved, with varying degrees of success, through the many decades since his birth at the simple writing desk in the spartan bungalow on Jamaica’s north shore. How many people in the western world couldn’t answer this question; ‘Who likes his Martinis shaken, not stirred?’
