BANGALORE, April 27 (Reuters) – Pinewood Shepperton agreed to be bought by largest shareholder and property tycoon John Whittaker, after his investment firm sweetened its bid for the James Bond studio to 96 million pounds, in a bid to ward off a late challenge from billionaire Mohamed Al Fayed.

The 75-year-old studio, which is also home to the Batman and the Pirates of the Caribbean films, recommended a 200 pence per share cash offer.

The offer for Pinewood, whose chairman Michael Grade was under the spotlight last year after its second largest shareholder Crystal Amber Fund demanded his resignation, represents a 22 percent premium to Pinewood’s April 7 close.

James Bond and Bentley link up for new book

A limited edition of the new James Bond book has been created by designers at Bentley Motors in Cheshire.

The Crewe-based company was approached by publishers Hodder & Stoughton to design the luxury edition, which is being marketed a month ahead of the publication date.

It follows similar work that Bentley did on previous Bond novel, Devil May Care, written by Sebastian Faulks.

This latest book, Carte Blanche, by Jeffery Deaver, sees the return of the Bentley marque.

A team of 7 people submitted proposals for the edition and the final design came from Bentley senior designer Brett Boydell:

“As a designer it doesn’t get much better than a brief of ‘Carte Blanche’! The design features radical concepts that we feel reflect the name of the book, the ideas inherent in the Bond legacy, and the design principles we are passionate about.”

There will be 500 copies of the Bentley-designed book, costing £1,000 each. The case, made from polished aluminum is inspired by the deserts of Dubai, one of the locations where the spy finds himself.

The book itself is bound in white Nappa leather and the title, author’s name and Bentley logo are embossed into the front and foil-blocked onto the spine.

The most dramatic feature is a die-cut bullet hole piercing the pages of the book and hidden within them is a single, polished 9mm bullet, each one individually numbered to match the book.

“Bond destroys as well as he creates and saves.  It was this element I needed to convey in my design. The reader has the excitement of finding the bullet housed in the centre of the pages with the text positioned so that the reading experience is undisturbed. I hope they find the book as exciting to hold and look at as the unfolding drama itself,” added Boydell.

The name’s Al Fayed, Mohamed Al Fayed: Former Harrods boss poised to make an offer on James Bond studios.

Colourful Fulham football club chairman Mohamed Al Fayed is seeking to become a movie mogul.

The former owner of Harrods department store is set to put in a bid for Pinewood Shepperton PLC – the film studio behind such blockbusters as the James Bond and Harry Potter franchises.  

Mr Al Fayed today confirmed he is considering an ‘all-cash’ bid for the historic UK studios after Pinewood had earlier announced it had received an £87.8million takeover offer from its largest shareholder, Peel Holdings Ltd.

James Bond satsar på "eget" Bondglas

Varför inte hjälpa till att göra det roligare i tråkiga tider. Om jag på något sätt kan hjälpa glasindustrin vill jag göra det, säger Gunnar Schäfer som satsar på att sälja glas med 007-gravyr…

James Bond-fantasten Gunnar Schäfer vill dra sitt strå till stacken för att stötta Orrefors Kosta Boda genom att sälja champagneglas med 007-gravyr.

Gunnar Schäfer förenar sitt intresse för den brittiske roman- och filmagenten James Bond och satsar på att sätta Glasriket, och inte minst sitt James Bond-museum i Nybro, på kartan.

– Jag har försökt att få kontakt med Torsten Jansson för att kunna samarbeta med Orrefors Kosta Boda men tyvärr har jag inte fått något svar. Det kanske kan bli något samarbete framöver, säger Gunnar Schäfer som nu på egen hand lanserar en kollektion.

Graverar själv

Han står själv för att förse glasen med 007-gravyren.

– Jag köper glas från Orrefors som jag sedan blästrar och graverar själv. Allt går att göra för hand.

Världens största Bondfantast är svensk

18 apr 2011 … Världens största Bondfantast är svensk. Och numer heter han också James Bond – på riktigt. Gunnar Schäfer har fått tillstånd av Skatteverket …

Stardust har tidigare porträtterat Gunnar Schäfer, eldsjälen som grundade världens första Bondmuseum i Kalmar. Han har träffat flera Bond-skådespelare och även gjort en statist-roll i Casino royale. Men frågan är om inte den senaste toppar allt i den Bond-tokige svenskens liv.

Han heter nu James Bond också, officiellt.

– Jag har ansökt om att få lägga till James Bond i mitt namn. Jag trodde inte att det skulle gå igenom, men Skatteverket har godkänt det, säger han till tidningen Östra Småland.

Han driver inte bara ett James Bondmuseum i Småland, hans hus på Spikgatan i Kalmar heter Golden Eye och hans mobilnumret slutar förstås på 007.

‘Bond 23’ to be shot in India

The buzz doing the rounds is that Sam Mendes’ ‘Bond 23’ starring Daniel Craig might be shot in India.

Remember Roger Moore in ”Octopussy” — the 13th James Bond film that had a fake Fabergé egg and a fellow agent’s death leading him to India to uncover an international jewel smuggling operation?

The movie, which had Moore being assisted in his mission by Indian colleague Vijay Amritraj foiling Kabir Bedi’s attempt to kill them while they raced through the Indian streets in an autorickshaw, was released in 1983. And now, the buzz is that the forthcoming Bond film, which has a working title of ” Bond 23″, might bring the British secret agent back in India again.

For those not in the loop yet, ”Bond 23” will be directed by Sam Mendes, once married to Kate Winslet, and will have Daniel Craig play the secret agent. For ”Bond 23”, Mendes is supposed to work on a screenplay by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan. There have been rumours of Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes to be working in the film too.
